New Construction and Deep Renovations

Our team’s approach is to guide design and ownership teams in performance-based decision making that results in the development of high performance integrated energy design. The process involves energy goal setting, development of strategies to achieve those goals, energy modeling to provide quantitative calculation of energy performance, cost estimating to document first cost impacts of energy strategies, and analysis of the cost-effectiveness of the high performance design strategies. Working with design and ownership teams, incentives for energy performance can be captured from the utility companies, making high performance design solutions even more cost effective.

To deliver energy design guidance and technical assistance that bridges the disciplinary silos of architecture and engineering practice, the UW IDL has developed a strategic relationship with SOLARC Engineering and Energy + Architectural Consulting.

Through this partnership we offer:

  • Energy Efficiency Opportunities Design Review
  • Integrated Energy Concept Design Assistance
  • Comprehensive Integrated Energy Design Assistance and Project Leadership
  • Post-occupancy Measurement and Verification Activities
  • Analysis and Maximization of Utility and Other Incentive Programs

The UWIDL/SOLARC team has extensive experience assisting design teams in developing high performing buildings. The IDL/SOLARC team are nationally recognized experts in energy performance and apply their prior and experience and knowledge to future projects. The IDL/SOLARC team is an experienced leader in the area of Integrated Design, an approach that gives the potential to deliver high performance, often independent of project capital cost. Our experience in the Puget Sound includes connections with the electric and gas utilities that are often external partners for incentive programs.
